Recharge: The Gathering 2009 - Workshops, Presentations & Discussions

Recharge: the Gathering 2009 will include the following workshops, presentations and training. There may be additional offerings once the Gathering begins.

  • Randai presentation and workshop
    Dr Megan Collins

Randai is a traditional dance form from Western Sumatra; Dr Megan Collins will give a presentation including a live performance, and lead a workshop (note - there will be limited numbers for this workshop).
  • Fleur Elise Noble
Australian artists Fleur Elise Noble combines illustration, puppetry, animation, video and live performance in her show The 2-Dimensional Life of Her (staged in Wellington recently). She will talk about her work and processes, and show some video documentation.
Visit her web site for more information.
  • Vocal and physical training
Jade Valour, Adele Chapman & others

Each morning will begin with a vocal and physical training session, led by Gathering participants including Jade Valour and Adele Chapman. Jade will lead vocal relaxation, voice in the body, and voice-movement work. Adele has offered a walking/movement meditation: based on Buddhist meditation, it connects imagination with movement and encourages awareness of our feelings, our mental/emotional states, and the world around us. Walking meditation slows us down so that we can 'feel' where we are; our thoughts calm down so that we can 'be in the moment'.
  • Writing and Reading Feedback
    Helen Varley Jamieson
How can we be more pro-active in writing about our own and each others' work, and where we can share that writing and use it to further discussions? Time will be allocated during the Gathering specifically for writing, and participants can publish this as a blog on the Magdalena web site and contribute to the Magdalena Aotearoa newsletter.
  • Remote Collaboration
Helen Varley Jamieson and Challen Wilson

A panel discussion about collaboration with people in different geographical locations. Challen will talk about her experience of writing with Cathy Rexford in Alaska, and Helen will share her experiences of working over the internet with people, some of whom she has never met, on a variety of projects. Participants are welcome to share their own experiences.
  • Yoga Nidra
    Moira Aberdeen

45 minute session of Yoga Nidra (psychic sleep) - "a delicious guided lying relaxation/meditation. This ancient and powerful practice works at a very deep level to regenerate the body and brain, and works with the layers of the subconscious and unconscious minds."
