United we stand, divided we fall ... Issue 35 of the Magdalena Aotearoa Newsletter

Issue 35 (April 2010) of the Magdalena Aotearoa newsletter is now in the letterboxes of those who subscribe to the hardcopy, and available to download as a PDF from this web site.

Trustee Lilicherie McGregor writes in the editorial, "The times they are a-changing, and women in theatre must change with them, to survive, to continue making work, to tell our stories, to voice our ideas." She writes about possible changes to Creative New Zealand and what impact that could have on the lives of women theatre artists, as well as the wider climate of unemployment and recession.

But all is not doom and gloom! The newsletter also heralds the next Gathering, to be held on Saturday 5 June and introducing a change to the format of past Gatherings. Instead of an intense five-day event, this year there will be three separate one-day Gatherings. We hope that this will enable more women to participate, as well as reduce the costs and organisational demands. The first Gathering is themed "What Is Magdalena?" and you can find out more and register online here.

Other newsletter articles include a report from Greenshoots Productions about their recent season of three short plays about money, "Currency"; part one of a two-part article by Meg Torwl, a Canadian-based New Zealander working in the fields of disability arts and queer performance; reviews of recent shows including "The Letter Writer" and "Alphonsina"; and much more!

You can subscribe online to receive the newsletter in your letterbox, or you can download the PDF; if you appreciate the newsletter, we encourage you to make a donation (which you can also do online).
