Spoken word at a BLM rally in Auckland

Many Magdalena women have articulated voice and language as being a core artistic driver in their work. At a Black Lives Matter rally in Aotearoa New Zealand last week this group Ngā Hinepūkōrero were captured on video in powerful, intelligent spoken word, in a piece about voice.

“We drowned our reo in the depths of our stomachs, stitched it into our clothes”

Ngā Hinepūkōrero are based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and are a group of four wahine Māori who use Spoken Word Poetry to bring kaupapa Māori to light.
